EXP3 Submission

The Bridge

In experiment 3, I have chosen the National Glacier Park, located in Montana, USA, as my valley inspiration. I have chosen this valley for more than one reason. One of them following the premise that "Environments change over time". This National Park undergoes the snowy winters and the hot summers. This is important because, as the dean, I have to cater to the needs of 100 international students. I understand it is hard to please everyone, but it is my job to offer these students the best experience possible. The various climates will ensure a sense a familiarity and contentment.
My style is a combination of abstract and conventional architecture. My underlying phrase that my bridge relates to is "Follow The Light". It is important to stress the significance of this phrase--in a conventional sense and in an abstract sense. Conventionally, I incorporated many windows, and negative spaces to let the light pass through. Abstractly, I want my students to reach their full potential in the classroom. To them, following the light can mean a number of different things. It could: A) encourage them to reach for the sky with all their endeavors, B) encourage them to never give up because there is always a light at the end of the tunnel, C) open the students' eyes to the connection between human and non-human relationships, and D) allow the students to push the limits of reality.
The bridge can be seen as a body, that pixelates as it trails behind:

The Bridge spans over this valley in a conventional way, allowing movement through the building very accessible. The captions in the picture describe the meaning of each room. The student' 'home' is on the right side of the bridge, while the staff 'home' is on the left. This allows students to have some freedom.

This is a view of the folly from standing on the computer lab platform. The different layers of roofing illustrates my theory "follow the light". When a person is sitting in my folly different shadows will cast down on the floor. When they look up they will see how the light enters from the different levels.

This is a view of the bridge from the Folly floor. The colors displayed on the bridge and folly connect to the components in an emotional sense. One feels at peace knowing the two buildings are one in the same. This view of the library shows off it's unique shape. This view also highlights the paths the elevators will take in order to get to the valley floor.
This is a view of the Folly from the Student's elevator, located in between the computer labs, student meeting rooms and the workshop for convenience. The elevator walls are a series of see-through strips allowing the natural light to enter and a clear view of scenery. If raining, a string can be pulled and the strips will act like blinds and will close to keep the water out.
This image captures what it would look like if a person was standing on the computer lab platform and looked up. The library is overhead while the staff platform is straight ahead. The computer lab is located 'under' the staff platform to encourage the students to look up to staff members for help. The library is left open in order for the light to shine down upon the computer labs.

Week 4 updates

Below are my updated versons of my bridge and folly from a SketchUp prospective. I am having trouble exporting them into CryEngine. For some reason they will not go in correctly so I will have to keep working on that.

Week 3 Update

Below are several pictures of my site so far. The bridge is not complete and I still have complete a couple of rooms (i.e. computer labs).

This first picture is my rough draft of the folly. The second picture was displays the bridge as if you were standing in the folly and looking up at the bridge. The third picture is a view from the elevator when it is at the top, and the fourth picture is a view from the elevator when it is traveling down to the folly.
