EXP 2: week 1

With this experiment, we were given two Architects, one alive and one deceased. Our living Architect is Toyo Ito, and the deceased Architect is Carlo Scarpa. As a group, we were to come up with 10 total concepts to represent their work. We were to then choose 6 concepts and create an axonometric diagram using 5 rectangles.

The 6 concepts I chose were:
Carlo Scarpa       Toyo Ito
Simple Geometry            Floating/Weightlessness
Controlled Chaos            Flexibility/Irrationality
Architectonics                 Negative Space

Final submission

Here are my 3 final views of my Sketch Up:

My Model:
The above floor is Antonio Stradivari's workshop. Here, he is able to construct, carve, play, observe his adored violins. The back wall of his workshop was inspired by the way he carves out the wood of the violin. The word "stroke" was my inspiration. These curved wood-like pieces are contractable. This means that if Stradivari wanted to look outside and let some fresh air in, he could pull a string and the pieces would roll up and come down. Or on the other hand, if Stradivari is feeling cold because it's the winter or if he is just having a bad day, he can keep the pieces upright to create a darker work environment. The wood-like pieces also resemble the lines of a music sheet. Also, on the main level back patio, I have created a stair-like theater area where people can sit down and mingle or where Stradivari can put on a show.

The below floor is Shinya Kimura's workshop. Downstairs, he is able to put together incredible moterbikes. With sound proof walls and ceiling, he is able to make all the noise he wants and the visitors upstairs will not hear a sound. This is unless he decided to open his garage, make a huge "vroooooom vrooom" and drive up his ramp and on to the ground floor. This is how he transports his bikes from his workshop to the showroom. The visitors love when they are sitting at the bar and all of a sudden Shinya comes roaring up the drive to show off his latest piece. Also, the large grass backyard of the model would be a great place for visitors/Shinya to test drive the motorcycles.

My sketchup file size was too large to upload to the 3D Warehouse, so I have uploaded it to mediafire instead. Here is the link to my sketchup model: http://www.mediafire.com/?9t1uf603u55s0cy
